They were mixed classes with both males and females but the males were a minority of less than 5%. Everyone was required to wear the same uniforms with minimal exceptions. Males had to wear gaffs, and femals had to wear bras under the uniforms. The basic uniform consisted of black leotards either white or black tights and black leggen.s. Beleive it or not the males did not look excessively feminine in these uniforms. Fred >I am also the only boy in my ballet class, RAD grade 6, my academy is not too fussy about what I wear. Since taking pointe class 2 years ago, I just wear what the girls wear. In our grade now, we wear pale blue leos over white tights and pink slippers with ribbons, its no big deal.
