Sometimes I venture to malls in (for e.g.)a black T-shirt, black tights with jean shorts, and lace-up boots (or in summer, running shoes with white socks scrunched down). It's not a bad look, and not so very feminine either.Surprisingly enough, many people don't give me a second look; others just seem curious--a few people might nudge a friend and whisper, but I've never had nasty remarks or hostility. One trick is to carry a large shopping bag, which allows you to hide your legs when you want. In department stores, it's easy to duck in and out of clothes racks, etc., so as to 'choose your audience.' It's great to visit trendy clothing shops with open-minded salesgirls. (I've developed a knack for spotting the right type.) Many are delighted to see guys in gender-bending outfits. I've become friends with a number of these young saleswomen, who no doubt assume that I'm gay--but that just seems to make them comfortable with me. They chat about clothes, and suggest items that would look cute with my tights (including short skirts, etc.) All this is an enormous turn-on for me. (I could go on and on with shopping tales. E-mail me if you'd like detailed episodes.)The bottom line is that I'd encourage you guys to try going public in tights if it appeals to you: at least give it a try, perhaps when you're away from home. Not only is it exciting, but it is also a matter of doing our bit to break down outdated gender rules that inhibit people from wearing things they love to wear.

So screw up your courage and go for it! And let's hear the results.

Regards, NB
