I haven't tried the Velvet DeLuxe, but I too was surprised at how opaque the Satin Opaques were with the rating of 50 denier. Nevertheless, they're lovely tights--c0mfortable and durable. Size 5 fits me fine (5'8", 165 lbs.)

For those, like me, who love a sheerer look, DIM Satin Opaques (from France) and beautiful and very flattering on shaved legs and they feel wonderful. Their size 4 is a nice fit for me.
