>Wasn't the book written by the same guy who did Crash? Now that I can blame you for the revival of THAT lil' nightmare of a book, I can thank you both for that and your tales of tights-torment :)

>>>Nyet, comrade, who you got there is J.G. Ballard (who is also bitchin'.) CO was written by Anthony Burgess, Who also wrote Napoleon Symphony, Devil of a State, and One Hand Clapping. I was quite the Burgess fanatic in HS until Vonnegut hit me (and squarely!) For all the grief I suffered in 9th grade, I was lucky enough to have an english teacher who not only allowed me to do a book report on CO (with the solemn promise that I wouldn't let anyone else know-this was '79, and she was pretty much trusting me with her job,) But who also wore colored hose regularly. Quite the shoe dangler, too, if I remember correctly. Between my English teacher and my Spanish teacher (she of the perpetual black tights and minidress,) it's a wonder I can speak at all!-D (In: Lane Bryant Superopaques-still my favorites!)

P.S. I've never read "Crash," but I hear it's quite a wrencher. Oh, and in case it's not too late, NEVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES LET ANYONE OR ANYTHING CAUSE YOU (EVEN ACCIDENTALLY) TO READ "AMERICAN PSYCHO."
