[i]>Hi! I'm 13 and I would really like to consider a career as a ballerina. I was wondering, do I have a chance? My experience level is: Age 5-ballet class for I year, 1 class/week
> Age 6-8 ballet classes at a really bad community center, 1 class/week
> Age 8-10 various dance classes at a really bad community center, 1 class/week
> Age 11 ballet class for I year at advanced level, 1 class/week
>Those really bad community center classes mean that the teacher didn't teacher well, like the teacher isn't a professional at it. Also I never really took dance (incl. ballet) classes during the summer. I'm not really flexible anymore, but I do have a good turnout, althought I'm most definatly not on pointe yet. I took a ballet camp last year, and my teacher said I was really talented. But if I consider a career in ballet, what kind of training should I get? Like how many hours a week should I take lessons? Should I consider private lessons? Any most importantly, do I have a chance?
Hello!
I am also a "ballet realist" but I have good manners.
I agree that your teacher would know best, and yes you should be taking 5-6 classes per week, including pointe classes..:)
Don't worry or panic, one of the most famous balerinas started ballet lessons at the Kirov at the age of thirteen..
That ballerina was Natalia Makarova.
Good Luck!
Melissa
