>Hello. I am looking for some advice and direction.

>I am a 36 yr old male thinking about starting Ballet Lessons. I have never danced before, but think it would be fun and a good hobby. Due to my age, I am not sure if this is a realistic interest for me. I do not know where to go for lessons and am sure I would be uncomfortable being the "old guy" in the class. Not to mention that I would be somewhat uncomfortable wearing tights.>Where should I look for lessons and guidance and maybe see what I am getting myself into? I want to be sure I am not the only 36 yr old in the area who is interested in Ballet.

>Mike>Los Angeles Hi Mike,   I started taking ballet at 22. It was something I always wanted to do when I was younger, but my parents would never let me.My girl-friend (now wife) encouraged me to take it, so I decided to try it.

I was alittle scared at first being the only guy in the college class I enrolled in,but I got over it by the end of the first class.I have been taking it ever since(I am now 38).It has many benifits such as greatexercise and it a great way to meet girls if you are single.  As for the tights, well thats part of ballet. I wear them all the timeand it's no big deal.I remember one time a couple of football jocks made some sissy remark to me once about wearing them during the middle of class. One of them said "how can you go around dressed like that?".I said it'seasy.I told them things we not so bad having to wear tights in a room fullof women dressed in leotards compared to what you guys do surrounded by a bunch of other guys. I got a much better deal! I hope you decide to pursuethis.Try a local college in your area at first. It does not cost as much asa dance studio, although the studio that I take it at now lets men take forfree as much as I want if you attend the pas de deux (partnering)class. Youmight find other studios that offer the same deal (it's pretty common practice). If you need help with anything else ,email me. Good luck.-Peter
