I've had lots of friends that took dance when they were younger, and after 10 years or so went back! About your problem. Sorry, I live in Chicago. But I've found schools for friends in different parts of the US and Canada. In North America there are several web-sites that give regional information. You drop in, say "Kenosha, Wisconsin," then search for ballet or dance, and presto, dance schools. We also have sites like infousa.com and 411.com on which you can search any area for certain categories of businesses. AOL has a service under their "search" option, choose "yelllow pages" (at the bottom of the page), put in your postal code and business type, and voila! I would think you'd have the same service in Australia. Give it a try. I corresponded with a guy in Australia on the serious male dancer board recently. Look for that thread. Also, I'm not sure, but there must be something like Dancemagaize in Australia. I seacrh the bookshops/magazine stalls for such a magazine, and you might find ads. I haven't mentioned the regular, paper yellow pages. Often there are lots of schools, but you don't know which one to call. Look for schools where they advertize that the teachers are "registered" or "trained at @@@@ method," etc. Don't be afraid to ask about programs for men, or ask to talk to the teachers and students before you sign up. Ask about adult programs, and try to assess whether they are serious about teaching adults. In some schools they have adult classes designed for the mothers of the little potential ballerinas, which don't carry much weight with me. Ask them if you improve would you have a chance to take classes with the more advanced (but younger) students. Also, look for schools that have an associated performing company. As on adult male you could be needed to assist at performances, maybe onstage, maybe offstage. No matter what you do, it's lots of fun!
