Hi Chris! Tough answer...

Hi Chris!

What are your real goals in ballet?  To become Nureyev? Or to find a place where you can express yourself through dance?

In the Bourneville school, they say if a male doesn't start training at age 3 or 4 he will never be a great dancer.  But how many danseurs do you know from Bourneville except Peter Martins?!?

The most serious question...What have you done in your youth?  Have you been physically active?  Did you participate in sports?  Did you take gymnastics or some other activite that developed your body?

If you spent your early years on the couch and only recently discovered physical activity, I'm sorry to say your chances of getting into a professional companies is slim. BUT! There is an alternative.  If you love ballet and would like to perform, you can find small regional companies or local schools that perform.

If your body is trimmed by early athletics, you have a good chance of getting into a troupe, but won't get to that premier danseur spot.

If you'd like to talk more, please post here, or email me at theboy@balletboy.com.
