Well, a ballet or choreography with a storyline is great, however...

I also like choreographies that have an essence.  A guiding way to it's assembly and it can be a short piece; could be as simple as "how do I feel like moving to this piece of music", and most choreographies start there as it is a great exercise in getting into the movement even though extremely basic.  Most choreographers come up with some sort of inspirtation as to have a reason to assemble movements after that.  Could be as simple as changine dancing styles with the musical changes or deeper by accentuating underlying harmonies or base tones in combination with overtones and melodies.  Not all choreographies need a storyline or grand presence to be a Great piece. Look at some of the shorter pieces 'emerging choreographers' put together.

I find the shorter pieces more interesting to watch as it really highlights the better dancers as they add their own flair to the movment combinations put out there by the choreographer.

To love art, you must love all the art forms. It has to do with being open minded to take away insights from any type of exposure.
