Age is a factor as you want the bones in your feet to have a certain level of maturity.

Level of dancing skill is another factor which includes (the four E's) your Equilibrium (balance), Endurance (strength), Extension (flexibility), and Elevation (presentation and adherence to the classic ballet lines during movment).

Some say as a young dancer in training you should be dancing 6-10 hours per week prior and have your teachers/instructors recommendation prior to starting point.
