Yes of course you can (!), but your body should be trained and in a good physical condition. You shouldn't smoke because smoking is always bad for physical fitness especially for matured people.

Start your lessons with easy modern style practises. I recommend you the Ballet Workout-DVD from Stephanie Herman because she combines modern style practise with genuine ballet-steps. If you start taking her lessons you may first have the impression of doing some Aerobic Workout, but with the time you really slip into a typical classical ballet workout.

Always keep in mind that fun is the most important factor even in ballet. Never try to overdo bending or streching. Your body needs time to adapt to unusual streches and bendings.

Enjoy classical ballet with its beautiful movements. You can benefit from it independent of your age. Always remember Ballet is fun.
