Re: Pointe

pointe hurts a lot. it's amazing, though, to feel yourself standing on the very tips of your toes! i am 14 and this is my first year en pointe, i've taken for about 12 weeks and my class still hasn't left the barre. it takes a LONG time to learn pointe, but i'm sure if you work very hard on your feet (tondus and plies, simple as they seem, should take all your energy! they help more than you think!) you'll speed up the process. i took half a year (september 'till christmas break) of Pre-Pointe class that focused on feet and keeping a posture appropriate for staying on a pointe box. Try to find a class or maybe a teacher that's willing to work with you on that. Also make sure your ballet teacher knows you aim to go on pointe, she/he'll help by deciding when you're ready. i hope you get on pointe, i LOVE it even through the pain, and with the help of a good pair of shoes and padding, it gets easier and easier every time. you sound like you'll do great because the number one thing it takes me (and everyone on pointe i know) is the determination and love of dance you seem to have. have a super time on pointe, and don't be discouraged if it takes a while! it's worth it!
