It's great to hear of another guy starting ballet!

I used to live in New Jersey, but in Princeton....so I don't know about schools up north.  But I have a suggestion.  Get a copy of Dancemagazine.  In the back there are ads for schools by state.  Try those.

If you have a local performing company, call them about classes.

These parsimony boards are good, but there are a couple of different websites you might try.  www.dancealert.com has many different discussion boards -- You don't have to take membership ($10 a year), but can use the apprentice feature.  www.balletalert.com has lots of good discussion about ballet.  For dancewear, there are lots of sites, but the best way to get into most of them is to log into www.dancer.com and click on their "Dance Links," then go to the category "Miscellaneous Resources."  There are lots of links there to dancewear sellers.

You'll see lots of discussion here about different topics.  But some of us end up discussing things one-on-one.  Don't be afraid to email one of us with questions you might not want to put on the board.  I know Drdancebelt@aol.com has great advice, and Tom Parsons has some great discussions from the alt.ballet site.  I myself have a little note I send guys who want to end the "unibutt" look, and have their tights fit well into the butt-crack so the cheeks are clearly seen; may sound crazy, but in ballet the males work hard to develop their bodies, and viewing all the muscles of the lower torso and legs becomes important for them and their teachers.

If you have questions about anything, post them or contact one of us directly.

Have fun with ballet...enjoy your classes...and keep dancing!  balletboy

>Hi all...great message board.  Just found you guys and think the interchange is great, especially for a male beginner like me.>Anyone have any recommendations on schools in North NJ that have adult beginner classes?  I have taken some class in NYC but that can be a trip all the time.  Anyone in the area...give a yell.>RON
