Come to think of it, do you know...

Commonsense is right!

Sport requires a "costume," and guess what...

When I was younger, my parents played bridge with this old couple that started Champion products. You know, you see the Champion name on all sorts of sportswear.  The old couple used to bring me and my brother "irregulars" off their production line.  They used to refer to football pants as "football tights," and wrestling singlets as "wrestling leotards."

I assume this was the standard in the clothing industry, because, back then, Champion was the industry leader.

Does anyone know if this is still the standard?

And as you say, what more is dancewear than the uniform of our sport, which also happens to be an art like gymnastics and so many other sports?

And as Steve said, men's dancewear is not like the tights women wear daily.  Even the trend in unisex dancewear has heavier, opaque material.

Although, I have to admit, I'm not fifteen anymore, and I'd like to think that when I was fifteen and taking ballet I wasn't concerned about what people thought. But then again, hindsight is 20/20.
