Re: Dancebelt website? TOUGH PROJECT!

Figure a minimum of $100, but probably at least $250 to $400 a month for a good website.  My website is simply a web-card, a one page reference to my email, and it costs about $100 a year.  A real website that has multiple pages with the ability to link to specific problems/questions needs a much more complex design.  You can put it on your own server, which must be monitored 24-7 by you (in addition to spending big bucks to have a proper server and access lines at your home), or put it on a service-server, for which you pay for both memory and access.

I have a load of ballet knowledge and ballet photos for guys, and I wanted to put it on a server for guys to access.  However, I found that this means lots of bucks to do properly.  What if ten guys simultaneously want to access the info...you need the proper access and the proper memory so they don't get "nasty" messages (like server not responding) or making the server crash.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love there to be a dancebelt.com website.  It's just that I don't think anyone has the bucks or time to put into it (except maybe someone like Dancing Doc who has a big business and polo ponies and drives around in a Mercedes that used to belong to Bob Joffrey).

P.S. I HATE AOL.  I've tried other ISPs, but they're just as bad, taking their cues from AOL.  AOL, and people like them are BASTARDS who are only interested in our money and who know that they're all so miserable and have a basic monopoly that we can't fight them.  Some terrorist should blow up AOL headquarters, but there's no political value in that.  Hell, I bet AOL gives international terrorists service too, and takes their money.

>Thanks, Eric & Ballet Boy.  I still think the idea of a "dancebelt.com" website could be a good.  The only two drawbacks to this project for me, right now, are:  (1) I don't know how much it would cost; and (2) I have no experience at all with website design.  The answers to both questions will be intrinsically useful to me, even if I decide not to proceed.>If I decide to go ahead, I will certainly solicit your opinions, feedback and contibutions.>QBF>(PS, please don't try to email me, as I am having no end of trouble with my AOL email address at AOL.  My friends find it impossible to contact me.)
