Re: are dancebelts OK for growing boys?

Once a male dancer reaches puberty, dance belts become a necessity of life.  Rather than harming your son's genitals, they protect them and wearing one will help the odds of your becoming a grandfather someday.

Many boys don't particularly like wearing one at first, but once they get used to the strange fit and feel of a dance belt, generally admit the security gained wearing a dance belt feels better for ballet class than not wearing one.

You should ask your son what bothers him when he wears his dance belt.  Most boys initially complain about the thong, which is something he will eventually get used to and doesn't have anything to do with his genitals.  If he complains of sore testicles it is possible his dance belt is too small and tight.  If that is the case, you might try a brand with a larger pouch such as the Capezio quilted model 5930, or an MStevens 1007, which is made from a very stretchy material.  If his complaints continue, his personal physician should be consulted.

A dance belt needs to be secure enough to provide solid support, but should not be a "nutcracker".  Your son's dedication to ballet should be encouraged and admired.  I wish him luck with his dance career.________________________________________________________________________

>I stumbled across this site by searching and hope you people can help me with a problem.  >My 11 year old son has been taking ballet classes since he was 9.  He really likes dance and hopes to become a professional someday.  He is starting to go through puberty and his ballet teacher sent home a message last week that he needs to start wearing a dancebelt under his tights.  I bought him one, but he doesn't like it and complains that it hurts.  Seeing how it is constructed, I'm not surprised at his complaint.  >How can I tell if he is just whining or if it really is too tight?  Can wearing something that tight impare his development or cause him other problems like sterility.  Is this something all boys who dance need to wear or are there alternatives?  Thank you for your help.
