It's called HYPERHIDROSIS!

Sorry to hear about your problem.  I perspire like a porcine!  I was doing a part where I was on my hands-and-knees with the obnoxious king sitting on top of me, and I had to be motionless for about three minutes.  I had a heavy costume, heavy cotton top and bottom, as well as a robe on top of it, and a hat.  The sweat kept pouring off me onto the floor.  When I'm in classes, especially in the summer, I take two t-shirts and change half-way through.

Some people sweat a lot.  However, there can be a reason.  Honestly, this is a medical diagnostic problem.  The symptom is called hyperhidrosis.  It can be "generalized" or "localized."  In generalized hyperhidrosis, the physician should investigate certain body situations....for example, people with hyperthyroidism can have generalized hyperhidrosis.  Substances like nictoine can cause generalized hyperhidrosis.  I don't want to say you have generalized hyperhidrosis, but these are things your doctor should investigate.

Localized hyperhidrosis is more common.  Often antiperspirants will help, but in some cases they're not enough.  There are very specific medical treatments for localized hyperhidrosis, some including Saran Wrap (actually, polyethylene film...I did a paper on the medical uses of this film when I was a Fellow).

You may need to see a dermatologist about this.  Ask about his/her experience with treating excessive sweating.  There's a medical device that can be used.  Only after these treatments are attempted should a physician suggest surgery.

Please follow-up with a physician, maybe the dermatologist.  Don't be afraid to ask them if they have treated this before.  Ask them what the causes of generalized hyperhidrosis are, and if they don't readily respond, you may need to look for another physician who can readily answer this question.  Not all physicians take the time to learn about something like excessive sweating, which is not really "glamourous!"

Let me know how you progress with this.  DancingDoc
