Hi buddha!

Welcome to ballet!

Fisrt thing to do is to ask if there is a dress code at your school for adult beginners.  Most adult classes are pretty open, as long as the costume is not too distracting.  I once wore a zebra striped unitard to an adult class.  Three-quarters of the way through pique turns across the floor the teacher yelled "STOP! I'm getting vertigo!"

I think you may be more comfortable in cotton-lycra tights, held up by an elastic belt, and plain white cotton T-shirt. And, or course, a dancebelt.  A unitard can be difficult to fit sometimes, and I think the former would be more comfortable for starters than an ill-fitting unitard.

I would also recommend footless tights.  Some footed tights can pull down out of the crotch.  Footless tights can be move up the claves as needed to keep the tights fitting properly on the pelvis.

With the footless tights, I would wear (I do wear) thin nylon over-the-calf socks (you can find gold-toes at better department stores, but I know K-mart sell a cheaper generic brand) with white ballet slippers.  This is the traditional look in many Russian schools.  The white socks and slippers make the foot more easily seen.

Ballet dance boots are really expensive and they are reserved for performances.  They are often not worn until the last dress rehersal.

Ballet slipper vary so much.  I used to only wear Freeds when I was in NYC, bacause they had the best leather.  Now I'm wearing PrimaSoft leather. But this is all preference and what is readily available, and what is in your budget. If you have an unusual shape to the foot, don't get canvas, but get leather.  The leather will mold to the foot, where the cheaper canvas does not give much.

I hope than answers your questions.

Good Luck!  and please write with any questions!

Second, cotton or nylon, and what is the major difference? Also what brand, M Stevens, Capezio?>Third, shoes, brand, colors?  Also there are these dance boots made by Grisko, are they appropriate, or just foe performance purposes?>Check them out:http://www.dancechoice.com/card.asp?goods=425>Thanks for any help you can give me.
