Dancebelt Q & A

written by Dr Dancebelt  on 07.10. at 18:58:37 - as answer to: Dance belt HELP ME WITH CLOTHING  by Alex at
one word - tradition.  Ballet is a traditional art form, from the class syllabus to what is worn.  It is distracting if everyone wears something different, trying to out-dress the next person at the barre.  Better for the teacher to be able to look down the line and see errors in a sea of plain colors than trying to notice misalignments in a catacophony of bright colors

>I am a fair shin oriental. what is the best coloured tighst for me?For ballet or to wear around town?  For ballet, see answer #1.  For elsewhere, it would depend on where we are talking about.

>Can I wear an tan/nude coloured dance belt but with a black pair of tights.Yes.  If you are only going to buy one dance belt, make it a nude one.

>Will it show the contour of my dance belt? Not to be flippant about your race, but this question sounds like the Japanese English written for toaster instructions.  I guess you are asking if your dance belt can be seen through your tights or if your bulge will show.  Dance belts do a pretty good job of staying invisible under tights, but any place the dance belt ends and skin begins will show a slight irregularity.  It won't flatten you out - you will still be identifiable from a distance as being a male.  Hope this answers your question.  If not, please re-state it.

>Do male wear tan/nude coloured tights? No reason not to.  I've seen them in catalogs, so someone must be buying and wearing them.

>Should the dance belt be tight or very tight or loose? It's like the porridge Goldilocks left out for the three bears: it should be just right.  A dance belt needs to be tight enough to hold you firmly.  However if the waist is too small, it will create a tight crease around your middle and any little flab will be forced above and below it, making you look fat.

>Can the dance belt be use as a pair of normal underwear for a second use?Personal choice.  If you can stand to wear one all day, go ahead.  However, if you are trying to conceive a baby, you should be aware that a dance belt holds the testicles too close to the body to stay cool and kills off sperm.

>Is it better to buy cotton/lycra OR with spandex dance belt? If you are only buying one, I'd go with cotton/lycra because they are more durable.

>Is it better to buy without OR with quilted. what is quilted?Capezio makes the only "quilted" model which has 2 layers in the pouch with a slight stuffing between them.  It smooths out and rounds your bulge more than non-quilted models.  Some people also think the extra stuffing is good for sweat absorbtion.  Personally I don't care for that model because the raw elastic waistband sucks.

>What is the best brand to go for. As I can only afford to buy ONE of each, this means that I cannot afford to wash them after each dancing session.I would choose the Capezio model #26

>It will cost me $100 all, please help me make a good choiceI'd find a cheaper dancewear store!  Even paying freight around the world, a dancebelt should NOT cost that much.  In the USA, dancebelts cost between $12 - $20.  Gold plating is extra.
