Sorry 2 Left Feet

I agree with you about BalletC(r)ock.

However, I'm sorry to say that homophobia is rampant in ballet.  What great gay male dancer can you cite, except Nureyev (who denied being gay to the end), that have achieved the acceptance of the danceworld?  Peter Martins is straight, Baryshnikov is straight, Jacques d'Amboise is straight, Edward Villela is straight, etc., etc., etc..

Balanchine was straight, and his (and the NYCB) patron (Lincoln Kirstien) was married with children, even though he appreciated "young boys" and tried to act straight.

How far have gay premier danseurs gotten in the danceworld?  Never complete acceptance.

I don't know where you're taking ballet, but would guess SF or LA.  In NYC we gays are tolerated because we pay for our classes with cash.  In Chicago, gays are steered towards adult classes and are discouraged, no matter how good, from taking classes with any teens. In Toronto, gays are accepted into class, but are recommended for lower, adult beginner or intermediate classes, and are rarely allowed into advanced ballet.  So much for the big, enlightened cities.

The world is not happy with gays, that's the sad truth.

And the gay males in ballet seem to be homophobic (look at this poor fellow Kyle), for fear of their careers.  I can't blame Kyle, but it's really sad he can't work his problem out with someone.

So much for the ballet world!  BalletMaster
