They may not turn out to be what they claim to be online. (this advice applies to adults who are able to defend themselves - children should NEVER agree to meet an online friend without their parents being present) Adopting an online nickname will not compromise your anonymity. However, it will give others reading the message boards an idea of your personality and basic philosophy as they read through several of your posts. That gives them the tools to decide whether your messages have value or should be ignored unread. This message board has suffered from too many angry posts, and I personally would like to see a higher level of civility.
