Ami! Listen to Tom! But do as you feel appropriate.

Tom makes a very good point.  Boys who take ballet may not only be subject to verbal violence, but may be subject to physical violence.  I can understand if you, as a parent, think this is too much of a risk for your son.

However, I believe this is no reason for your son to not experience ballet; it's another thing he should be aware of. He should be told how to react if this occurs.

I was never threatened physically because of my ballet interests, but would have fought to the death if I was.  Verbally, I was assaulted constantly.  My brother and his friends called me balletboy.  I, in turn, wrote "balletboy" on my t-shirts and told everyone I loved the nick-name balletboy.  I survived.

I hope that you decide to have your son take both ballet and martial arts.  But if you decide otherwise, I would respect your decision as a parent.
