Hi Joe!

The purpose of the male undergarment when the male dances is to draw the male genitalia up and out of the crotch, so that quick, scissor-like movements of the legs don't involve the sensitve genitalia and cause damage/injury to them.

A dancebelt can achieve the desired position, holding the penis, pointed upwards toward the belly-button, and the testicles, up away from the crotch.  Many jockstraps have pouches that allow for lots of space and can't keep he genitalia up, out of the crotch.

Telling boy dancers that they should wear wear a supporter like a jockstrap is easier than saying you have to wear a dancebelt, and the idea of wearing a jockstrap sounds more macho.  But it's wrong.  Male danseurs need more support tnan a jockstrap.
