Hi Rhys!

Complex situation.  What you have to know from the real world of ballet is that choreographers have certain "looks" they want in their dances.  In the past I have gotten certain parts because I had the look the choreographer wanted, or just because I was a male and he/she needed a male in a certain part.

That's the real world of ballet!  Sorry!

But there are some other problems....

I read what you said about Michael, and that he needs work.  But some guys are natural danseurs, or maybe I should say natural movers.  His technique may not be precise, but if he has the right movement and the right musicality....  In ballet performances it's often the appearance that is most important.

I used to super for a major North American ballet company.  I often heard "Take him, his legs look more muscular in tights."  I got to play palace guards that moved around the stage whereas my friends ended up having to stand still as waiters, flag-bearers, etc.  Go figure!

I have this good friend who trained with this girl who became a major choreographer of Circ-de-Soliel.  He auditioned for a position there (he was trained in gymnastics and ballet since he was little), and she had the deciding vote.  She came over to him and said his pelvis and lover abdomen were just too flexible, and not stiff enough for the Circ style.  Go figure!

On other thing that concerns me about your message is that you say you work just so hard.  Part of the great performance of a male danseur is that you need to make the movement look easy, and that your face portray this confident attitude and easy movement attitude.  Danseurs all need perfect technique, but if it looks like they are working so hard in an on-stage performance, they don't do the part justice.

Just my opinions and stories!  I hope you find them more informative that Aaron's stupid remarks!

PS: There are some serious male dancers on this site, but there are also freaks!  Be careful!
