Re: anyone else have the same thing happening?

The cliques and catty behavior are exactly what I experienced as a teenager.  That's just how girls that age are.  I remember they would basically ignore me, engaging in "girl talk" right in front of my face.  You know, "this guy's cute" and "that guy's cute".  They're really only interested in older guys at that age.  Sigh...

As an adult and professional dancer, I've found that things are different.  The girls have grown up into fine young ladies, and they're interested in interacting with people as human beings.  They respect me because I work hard and I dance well.  Most importantly: I listen to what they want when partnering, and make a sincere effort to do it for them and remember for the next time.  Also, I treat them with respect; so many men like to objectify women, talking about them like they're a piece of meat, touching them unnecessarily all the time.  That can only hurt relationships with the ladies.  I keep my hands to myself.  Also, I do small favors for them from time to time; people always appreciate that.

So hopefully, what I describe above is what you can look forward to.  In general, I like our ladies better than our men because they work harder and don't have inflated egos.  Male dancers can be such a pain to work with at times.

Unfortunately, I've found that's not always the case.  I spent all last summer taking the same ballet class again and again in New York.  It was full of professional dancers like myself.  Most of them refused to acknowledge my existence, even after 4 months of taking class steadily there; they would not even say "hi".  Yuck.  I finally DID make one friend, but I had to go to pointe class to meet her.
