a word to ballet boy

thanks for enlightening all of us about why guys wear it under, and not over, tights.  For some reason, I'm used to the idea that the waist of the tights is worn at the waist...which isn't true.   The "waistline" is usually higher.  Perhaps this is to give the male dancer the illusion of wider hips?   Obviously, the leotard over the tights blocks that illusion.   I only mentioned it because i thought that a leotard could hold up the tights, but apparently they stay in place just fine.
