This is kind of a grey area, usually it is at the discretion of the company, this may not really come up if you are dancing with a smaller company, I trim mine with hair clippers as do most of the men in my company, it is a lot less upkeep, and not gong to cause itch… if they are short your instructors will most like not say anything, it also helps keep deodorants and stuff off of your dancewear if it is closer to your body.
