Epiphanys, thresholds and Pinnacles

written by Mancer  on 02.12. at 03:56:41
Well, as some of you know I have been dancing ballet now for...geez 5 years.

I am really amazed I have stuck with it this long due to all the challenges, setbacks of torn muscles, thinking some movements were unachieveable but it is all starting to come together.

As some may remember I started with classes with a private instructor to get the basics down, then moved on to a local studio and for the past 1.5 years been taking college level classes (which I may add have been the best thing for an active and athletic adult who wants to actually learn to dance and be challenged).

It is really funny.

movement combinations like chase, pas-de-bourre, glissade, p-jete, glissade, p-jete, glissade, assemble use to be difficult and I had to struggle with digesting each movement.  Then there was a time when my feet could move but my arms couldnt.  Then all of a suddern when your not paying attention to what the teacher says (maybe semi-consciously), and then the music starts and "BAM" all of it works together, the feet are crips, the movements large, the technique good, the musicality on and you just stand there dumbfounded like...."jeez, crap...did I just do that and not think about it" and the teacher is standing there saying "Ron...that is it...that is what were looking for".  I couldnt believe it...an out of body dance experience...dumbfounded...speachless...quasi professional.

I can't begin to tell you all how good it felt that the years of dedication and hard work are finally starting to pay off.

- double pirouettes are solid and working an trips.- passe releve's are getting solid.- nor more sinking in the hip...or at least tons more strength.- toe point is getting good yet still needs work.- core is getting strong and some movment is really starting to initiate from there.

And who said you cant teach on old dog new trick.

And I am not self praising here.  I have a long way to go to reach any pinnacle as there are movments (like advanced turns and jumps) that still need refinement due to lack of strength or flexiblity in key areas or improper technique.  But epipahy moments due to crossing seeminly unreachable thresholds feels great.

Hope it helps some and inspires others.
