I have been dancing for 13 years, nearly 14 years. I have worn all different styles of clothing each for there own performances. In Competitive dance such as ballroom and disco the costume were to be as sparkly as possible to get you noticed...imagine being a lad having to wear a lycra top that fastens under the crotch to stop rising and then latin style trouser in vivid blue with orange patters and sequin and matching makeup...Sounds crazy but it was the team costume...

Then theres contemporary dance where for some reason the choreographer and designers always like to make the costume as crazy as possible, and sometime restricting...

Ballet is farely pleasent compared to these...tights are not as bad, they are male tights which feel more comfortable depending on the type to get...there not silky or satin.

For most dance classes that involves technique tight fitting clothes is essential so you can see if you are using the correct muscle and performing right...Certain types of dance such as jazz and tap dont require this so you can where baggy clothes...In ballet there are certain times when you may get away with wearing jogging pants to keep you warm inbetween techniques etc...also certain schools will allow you to where other trouser as long as there tight fitting...and most companies will allow you in class to wear shorts over the tights if you think there a bit revealing

but i cant understand your problem...if you willing to get vertually naked in gym wants wrong with wearing tights inclass, you will have to wear them in performances anyway and everyone else in class will wear them...

If this seriously bothers you i'd suggest taking contemporary dance whereby dress code is not as strict, also they do some ballet technique but are not restricted by technique and they dont use frech words...

Good luck with dance
