Mike,

It is fine that you wear tights to your beginner class for the following reasons.  The teacher can see what your knees are doing.  The teacher can see what your hips are doing. The teacher can clearly see the line from your calve to your ankle and foot.

Pro dancers use sweats in rehearsal mostly cause they have inactive periods when they are on the sidelines not dancing.  The sweats keep your muscles warm during these breaks. But in class, sweats can hide a multitude of sins.  The teacher has a much better chance to give corrections if you come to class in tights.

I'm a dancer.  But I also do some teaching.  I let people come to adult beginner class in loose clothes.  But I tell the students who are serious and show potential that I can help more if they wear tights.
