Re: Get a dancebelt, Alan

Doesn't wearing a dancebelt for any length of time incur the risk of damage, through restricted circulation? If my memory of anatomy classes serves me right, the scrotum contains a lot of blood vessels to keep the testes well supplied and at the right temperature. Surely if dancebelts are supposed to be so 'snug' (bl**dy uncomfortable, I'd call it), you're hindering that circulation, as well as applying undue pressure to rather delicate tissue? (I'm pretty sure that excess pressure can lead to thrombosis over time.)

I realise that support is required to avoid accidents during cabrioles etc., but does it have to be quite so extreme? I bought a dancebelt as part of the standard kit when I started, but since I first tried it (and yes, I did give it some time) I've never worn it since - I hated it.

It doesn't seem to be a big problem in practice, I've found well-cut briefs and a narrow-legged tracksuit do as well as a dance-belt and tights at the moment; though my teacher's not going to put up with that for much longer, and I don't want to fall out with her when I refuse to buy the unitard she's asked me to get in the near future.

I often see postings here from people who obviously like their dance-belts, and I can't help wondering - are they really all that comfortable, and more importantly, safe? Any medical people out there with a view?

Anthony
