Eric,I am 16 years old and I have been dancing for almost 10 years. I came across your message when I was looking for someone to sponsor me as a dancer. Ballet is what I do most, and best. I began taking tap and jazz a few years ago and modern this last year. A strong ballet background is the best thing to start with though. I know you asked for help several months back so I don't know what you have already done to get started. With respect to that I hope you have found a good studio. I would have to say that private lessons would not be optimal untill you get to the point where you feel you absolutely need them. If you can pick it up easilly and are doing exceptionally well, good for you! I am currently with the Conservarory of Classical Ballet and New World Ballet. I dance with a 14 year old guy who has been dancing for only a year and he has do so well. He is already past some other dancers who have been dancing for many years. Anyway, The best thing I can tell you is to find a good studio. A small studio will do nothing but hold you back. Find a studio where the dancers are serious and the teachers are strict in the nicest, most helpful way. If you want any additional guidelines or just wand to talk, you can e-mail me at the above address.Good luck and dancer bliss!Care, Reni
