Re: Men on pointe?

>I was just curious if there are any other male dancers who dance on pointe. About 3 years ago, after recovering from an ankle injury, I was having trouble regaining strength in plantar and dorsiflexion. I was having trouble with certain foot postures in my martial arts classes (my first love, I must admit...its what got me into ballet in the first place). Someone suggested training on pointe..whether it has been proven to strengthen feet or not, I don't know. But I gave it a try, and have great success so far. My ankles are stronger than ever, thus making my kicks more effective. Plus, it gives me a new respect for what the women have to go through. It's harder than it looks, guys. :) Any other male dancers, for one reason or another, dance on pointe?>-aaron>Feel free to Email me...I don't make it to the boards that often.

Can't speak for myself, but I saw a guy at Steps (in Manhattan) removing a pair of pointe shoes a while back.He said he had to do pointe to get a gig once, & he had kept doing pointe work because it improved his marketability. So you aren't alone....
