No bribes, but realism

Hmm... I never had to bribe my way into it.  I'm a professional dancer, I'm always one of the best dancers in the classes I go to in the off-season (except in pointe work), I work hard, and I don't do anything outlandish or disruptive, I mean I try to fit in with what I wear.  And I encourage or help out the other dancers when I can, and greet them coming in and out of the studio.

No one has ever questioned what I wear to my face.  I suppose that people think it's eccentric, but the teacher is able to see inside of people and I think we have an unspoken understanding.  She never pretends I'm a woman no matter what I wear, which I appreciate.  She's glad to see me get gigs (which means less time in her class to study en pointe), and understands I don't dance more full-time because I have another career at this point.  If she thought my style of dress were a problem, I'd wear something different and continue with the class, she is an excellent teacher.  I might wear something else anyway, if I feel like it.

I know what you mean about fitting in, it's nice not to feel "different" for once.

Being able to see yourself in a leotard and tights, and working in pointe class, allows you to use your body and develop your technique to a new level of exactness and precision.  That is a wonderful feeling.

I'm also studying modern dance now.  Interestingly, you don't have to wear pink tights to "fit in" there, it's much less of a hyper-feminine environment.
