Hey danceman! What happened?

written by balletboy  on 01.06. at 03:08:01 - as answer to: Re: Is it too late for me? by balletboy
Haven't heard from you!

I didn't write my answer to be discouraging!

I haven't seen you on the boards since then!

I wanted to be a professional!  I thought I would give my right arm until I realized I couldn't do the third port-a-bras without it!

I went the way of a "professional career" that pleased my parents. even though I wanted ballet.  I regret no having ballet as a career!  I used to make lots of money....but hated it!  I have found a job that lets me do what I want, at less money, and I'm happy....somewhat.  But I take classes at a studio that occasionally wants me to perform, and I love it!  I'm not Nureyev!  But they occasionally find a spot for me!

If you have a chance....I say go for it! Ballet is an experience, and if you don't go for it, you won't know if you could!

Hugs and kisses from your balletboy!  And I'm cheering for you!

>Hi danceman!>What do you really want from life?  The dance experience, or to be another Nureyev?>No matter, though.  If you were in Bourneville, you're too old if you didn't start at age 4 or 5.  Many fancy American companies want to see guys who started at least in thier teens.  That's the way it is if you want to get into ABT, NYCB, etc.  If you want to join a local or regional company, you have a good chance.>I wanted to be a ballet danseur since I was about 4, but my mother disagreed.  I started in real classes when I was in high school, without her knowledge.  I've spent many happy hours performing at nursing homes, childrens' hospitals, and local performances.>The experience is more important.  Seriously, as a danseur, you won't make much money where-ever you are.  It's the hard work and the dance experience that is important.>If you'd like, eamil me.  Just click on the highlighted "balletboy" above for my email.  Career or not, live dance!>balletboy>>>Hi, I'm 18 years old and have just started dancing 1 year ago. I really like to dance and would like to make this a career, but I am afraid that it might be too late for me.  My teachers at the studio I dance at are very supportive, but I am just concerned that I may be going for something that is out of my reach.
