I ride in jodhpurs (tight-fitting, not the kind that bag at the thighs) with rubber riding boots. I don't like my current boots - want to get half-chaps, or leather boots when I can afford them, in fact when I can afford to ride more often. Jods/breeches are a must: look good and allow you to feel good in the saddle. Jeans + sitting trot = ouch! Never worn full-seat breeches, so can't comment on them; as for saddles, I think they can make a big difference and need to fit you as much as the horse.
