Don't feel badly, but DON'T deviate...

Ballet is the basis for all forms of dance.  I've known modern and jazz company directors that insist on a strong ballet background and ongoing ballet training.

Why are you getting bored with ballet?  There's so much to do in ballet, even at a fixed level class, you still must work to perfect your technique.  No offense, but having followed your posts, I don't get the impression that you've perfected your technique yet.  Sorry but I can't think that you do everything precisely and perfectly.

Without perfecting your ballet technique, I don't think you'll have much chance with any other style dance company, except maybe Eastern European folk dancing!  Get out your accordians!

If you feel bored working on your ballet techique, why don't you work on your ballet style?  Work to fit the exercises uniquely to yourself.  Your teachers may not think its the time yet to develop a style, but give it a try!

Also remember that dancing, professional or amateur, requires DISCIPLINE.  You must be able to discipline yourself to continue dancing.  Ballet is the best type of discipline, so buckle-down and learn and repeat and repeat and repeat the exercises until you can move with grace, effortlessly.

Is there something else going on here?  I would die to have the opportunity you have at your age, to join a company.  Is there something you thought you'd find in ballet, in a ballet school, in your ballet friends, that you haven't (yet) found?  What are your expectations -- personal and professional?

>Hey, everybody.  I have been taking ballet for a little while now and I do enjoy it, but I became easily bored with it.  Like the whole expectancy of the classical male; you know what I am talking about.  After I started taking modern, I realized how much I could actually enjoy a dance class.  Now, I want to cut back on two of my ballet classes, both are taught by the artistic director of the company.  I mean...  I dunno.  I wish I could find a modern company around here.  But we only have 2 or 3 main ballet companies here, so a modern one is obviously non-existent.  I feel bad about it.  She expected me to try out for company this fall, and I am not so sure I want to do so now.  I am scared that I will be trapped into strict ballet after strict ballet performance.   Just give me some general advice, PLEASE?  I dunno what to do!>~Orange Ballet Shoes~ (...or would it just be "Feet" now?...)
