About tights/unitards

Robert:

There's an art to wearing tights in ballet class.  In general, you'll probably need something to help them stay up, like an elastic belt or suspenders.  You don't want them sagging down from you crotch.

I find that nylon/lycra materials tend to sag down more.  Footed tights also may not have enough length, and pull down while working.

I usually wear non-footed cotton/lycra blend tights, with a thin elastic belt.  I always wear white socks of a thin material (nylon), NOT heavy cotton tube socks, which can interfere with your feel of the floor.  (You can get thin nylon socks at most department stores.)

A unitard can work as well, if you find a fit that suits you.  They're pretty standard in body length and leg length, and if you're not the "average" body size, they can fit poorly.  Once again, I wear a non-fotted unitard so that the legs will fit right and so the crotch won't sag down.  If you're "long" in the body, you may have trouble getting a tank-top unitard that doesn't dig into th shoulders.

Finally, you ask about dancewear to "'cling' to the body's form."  I think I know what look you're interested in (? around the butt).  This is easily done with almost any pair of tights, and some unitards, and it's a matter of adjusting the material in the right way.  Please e-mail me at the above (click on the high-lighted "balletboy," above) and I will give you more details.

Talk to you soon!  balletboy
