Re: what do you do when you get a erection?

>>Also, the recommendation of the Capezio belts are worth listening to as they make the most comfortable thong expecially when it really eats into your cheeks when you dance 3-4 hours a day like me.>>One more thing, I was told the dancebelts we now wear is a godsent compared to what the first generation of dancebelt males used to wear in the 1960s, Besides the extra thick and really not that elastic belt, the front pouch (triangle) consists of a layer of cloth and another outer layer of plastic like material which is NOT elastic at all! So beside making sure that it will not visible if you become wet it also make sure your penis and testicles are compressed to be as flat as possible. It was painful to begin with and was near impossible to have an erection. You look no different to a girl behind your tights.>>When I attend the mens class, alot of us have erections, I admit I get quite excited when I am waiting for my turn to do my steps and watching the bulges behind the movements as I am gay. But when my turn comes, I concentrate on my dancing, erection and all. Straight guys have erections too, BUT, nobody bothers anybody else but dance according to the rule. What you do afterwards is outside class & ballet school. >>Have your erections, don't be embarrassed and enjoy your dancing.>Thanks for all your information.>Ok I must have the wrong kind of dancebelt then because mine doe'snt have any extra layer or padding. It's just one layer and is elastic (I think spandex) It's tight enough to hold me firm and up but doesn't prevent me from getting big.>I'll have to ask the dance shop about the Capezio you suggest. The squashing of the testicles part sounds a bit scary though. >A couple questions though. If the capezio kind hides an erection so well, then how do YOU know all the other guys have erections in class? or how did those girls know and "smile"?>I'm not gay and am great friends with a couple of the girls. I know it's important to be "sexy" as well as a good dancer and I've been told I am "sexy" (not those words) by the teacher and the girls. They're all really nice to me. In fact, sometimes I wonder if one girl flirts on purpose sometimes. Shes always teasing and touching my butt in a stimulating way and doing stuff that gets me "going". I just try to (as you say) put my passion into the dancing because I do feel that I'm talented. >I know it's natural but don't you guys get even a bit embarrased? I can't help getting a bit self conscoius if I get REALLY erect and my main worry is if it happens in a performance I don't want to be labeled a freek or a pervert. No one has yet answered my question. Does it ever happen to the "pros" in a performance?

In response to your concerns about erections while in dance class -- don't worry about it!  And don't worry about it in performances!  You'll find that if you concentrate on your dancing rather than your **** (sorry) the erection problems will fade away.  This is from more than 20-years experience in ballet.

First of all remember, we're all human.  The human male gets erections.  That's nothing to be ashamed about.  The fact is that it happens.  Secondly, why worry about what people will think about your erections -- it's really none of their business.

The male dancer is their to show his form and technique -- male dancers are not just "porteurs" (to carry/support a ballerina!)!

Trust me, everyone knows what's inside your dancebelt, and the fact that some people care (if they care in the "right" way) should flatter you!

Does it happen to the "pros" in performances?  You bet your life it does!  Do they worry about it?  In my experience, having practiced dance medicine for several years, they don't.  They believe in thier art; they believe in their bodies. If the performance is good and the body is in tune, why worry about anything else?

I've been asked to give the "dancebelt lecture" to the new (and some experienced) male dancers several times.  This is one topic that is not discussed enough.  However, I believe it comes down to one fact.  As I said above, the male dancer is human, and the male body reacts in many ways, one of which is an erection.  Accept it!  Don't worry about hiding it, people will understand!  You work hard to develop your dancer's body -- be proud of it.

Dance belts do vary in many different ways.  In my opinion, the most important part is "comfort."  You can get "binders" -- some dancers make them for themselves.  But don't get carried away.  Dance with the dancebelt that makes you most comfortable.
